Sir Igniteus the Fifth, they’ll call it. The grand poohbah of community events, some say. The fifth London Ignite is coming up. For those of you who just want me to get to the details and dispense with the vapid fluff, I’ll tell you that
Ignite V is going to be held on
March 14th, at Aeolian Hall (795 Dundas St. East, here’s a map for ya,
http://www.aeolianhall.ca/contact-us) and will start at
6pm.
.
However, say you don’t register and some mystical fate finds you in front of Aeolian Hall at 6pm on March 14th. Do please come in, we won’t be anal about tickets; in fact, save the trees, don’t print your ticket even if you did register for one, we believe you and you’re more than welcome.
.
If you’ve read this far, perhaps you need more persuading to come, or are simply curious of what I meant by ‘vapid fluff.’ I can assure you there is a reason why they say curiosity killed the cat. You want to know what this Ignite business is all about. First off , it’s not a business, it’s a chance for anyone to share an idea with the members of their community. So, let me walk you through what to expect when you attend Ignite V on March 14th.
You’re going to walk up to a beautiful building at 795 Dundas St East.
.
.
You’ll get in the door–assuming the magnificence of the Aeolian Hall didn’t put you into an awe-struck zombie-like state (don’t worry, we have volunteers to help get the architecturally-zombified inside the Aeolian). Then you’ll run up some stairs and be met with a few of our wonderful volunteers and coordinators.
.
.
Now here comes the hard part, your first choice of the night. The room to your left houses the bar, the room to your right, the food. I know right? Paralyzed by choice is an understatement! I can’t help you here, since I have yet to pass through this trial successfully. Whatever choice you make–and I sincerely wish you luck with that–you’ll luckily find that both rooms lead into the main hall of the Aeolian; which is where you’ll need to find yourself by 6pm.
.
.
Now that you’re here, take a seat or mingle and meet other members of your community. Ignite is a community of some seriously wonderful people, so go out there and meet some new people. So you’ve done it, you’ve found the Aeolian, found the main hall, met some people, and now it is starting. You might be wondering why the MC is talking about teams and a challenge?! Well before you get to the Ignite talks themselves, you’re going to have to do a little work. Your Third Trial of the night! Some sort of challenge to test a team of your peers. But be fore warned, these trials will test the true character of the Ignite goer. Your deepest fears will be revealed in the challenge. For example, Ignite IV had each team building the highest tower out of Cupcake Wrappers, Wooden Skewers and Paperclips. The screams haunt my memory still!!! Just look at these terrified faces.
.
.
Alright so it’s not that bad. It’s actually not bad at all, it’s a wonderfully fun way to open up your Ignite experience. If you wish to take part, just walk up and join a team. However, If you’re in the mood to observe a breathtaking display of teamwork and human ingenuity, then by all means you can relax and watch. So, the challenge is over, the winners have been decided and prizes distributed accordingly. It’s time for some speakers. You will be met with condensed 5 minutes talks by wonderful Londoners sharing their ideas and stories. It truly is inspiring.
.
.
And remember, these are your fellow Londoners, if you want to approach them after and continue the conversation they began, they would be happy to do so, in fact that sorta is the idea behind Ignite. So, go up and talk to the presenters.
.
.
That’s it, that is what to expect from the March 14th Ignite V. Of course that is far from the end, we’re hoping that Ignite London will ignite some new conversations, ideas and friendships for you in our community; and at the very least, I know we’ll see you in a few months for another Ignite.
.
But say you know all of this, and really you’ve been wondering when I’ll shut it, and tell you how to become a speaker. Well, gather round for the “Becoming an Ignite Speaker Saga.” It was a cold day in London Town and there were long icicles hanging off our coloured stainless steel trees……..okay here are some links to check out, they’ll get you what you need to know, some tips, tricks and who to send your proposal to:

See you at Ignite V
